Spillway Creek of Lake Argyle in Flood

This is the image i referred to a few posts back of Spillway Creek of Lake Argyle in flood, there is a handy photographer in the foreground to give perspective to the image, and here is another image i posted a while back from the same area.

The force of the water was creating huge standing waves over 1m high as it was funnelled under the traffic bridge just to the left out of shot to this image, i think you could very well surf on them!  This shot was taken on the tail end of last years 7day Bungle Bungles photographic adventure tour that we ran, we will be running another 7 day Bungle Bungles photographic adventure tour this May, so stay Tuned.

Last Years wet season was so huge that Lake Argyle still had over 9m of water above the overflow mark in May so Spillway Creek was raging.  We spent a day and a night photographing around Lake Argyle and Spillway Creek after we left Purnululu National Park.  It was an amazing sight seeing the sheer force of the water thundering down that narrow ravine.  Only a couple of weeks earlier the water was so high that the bridge to the Argyle Dam was under water and the whole of Lake Argyle resort was cut off.  The numbers i was hearing were 12m above the overflow…  thats 12m height of water above the bottom of the overflow cutout, over the area of the whole of lake Argyle, all trying to get out at once through the narrow gap of Spillway Creek…

This image was shot on the Linhof Technorama 617 with the 72mm Schneider Kreuznach lens, its a 5 second exposure on fuji velvia 100
